Who am I?

Eleni Vatamidou

My name is Eleni and I come from Greece. I am a researcher by nature, mathematician by academic education, avid reader, eternal learner, certified RTC® coach, and many more.

Determined to follow an academic career, I have sought opportunities in 4 different European countries. My biggest cultural shock was that traits like the ability to market oneself and initiate opportunities instead of waiting to be discovered dread many professionals no matter the nationality or the level of education!

Therefore, my goal as a coach is to help professionals create a brand that attracts opportunities instead of repelling them.

Let us find out how I can help you!

My background

I started my professional career with the ambition to become a university professor. As you have probably realised, my formal education is on mathematics and spans from a bachelors to a PhD including statistics, applied probability, insurance modelling, and various additional subjects. For the curious reader, you can check my publications and other academic achievements on my personal LinkedIn page.

Being a researcher by nature with an always inexhaustible curiosity, I have spent 9 years studying mathematical patters of complicated systems and developing algorithms (aka ordered instructions like recipes) to describe in a simple and accurate way the systems' behaviour. Fun and interesting work, but how can you use this knowledge to solve daily problems? How can you turn the results into practical solutions?

To answer these questions, I followed the adage when the student is ready, the teacher will appear and I delved into my own personal research. I completed entrepreneurial trainings, participated in multiple workshops, read numerous books from marketing to economics to psychology, and exchanged ideas with many diverse professionals. Lucky me, I enjoy studying and I'm a compassionate listener!

This newly acquired and diverse knowledge led me to make a thorough audit of my career path and decide that I wanted to take the results of my research (without the math, relax) and transfer them to a new context. I still had to figure out the context though...

Why coaching?

The turning point

While trying to figure out my next career step, I started a different research in parallel. Research on how to reverse my autoimmune condition, which at the time I was calling project health.

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis when I was 14 years old. Since the only known symptom associated with my condition was feeling cold most of the time, I relied on the diagnosis I was given, did bloodwork 1-2 times per year to make sure my medication didn’t need adaptation, and life continued for 20 years...

Until one day I randomly came across a phrase that would turn my life upside down: "It is possible in some cases to balance thyroid hormones through diet without the need of medication"!!! Was I one of those cases??? I had to find out.

Spoiler alert, I did reverse my autoimmune condition. It took me 1,5 years and countless hours of studying to get out of my medication. The best part? I healed at a deeper level than I had imagined. More precisely, I:

  • recovered from my Chronic Fatigue Syndrom and supercharged my energy,
  • understood the origins of chronic stress and learned various somatic techniques to release it, and
  • accidentally activated a delayed PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and subsequently healed from it.

This journey motivated me to view my academic career from a different angle. Although I had a long list of achievements and a natural ability to market myself and create opportunities, I realised how certain limiting beliefs had completely shaped my whole career.

I was not always acting in accordance with my high standards only because past traumas were dominating my reactions in the present. Knowning how to release those traumas, allowed me to explore the full potential of my brain and maximise my performance. My nervous system was no longer wasting my energy, energy that I could use to live my life.

That's when I decided to transfer my newly acquired knowledge to the context of professional development and help accomplished professionals realise their full potential as well. I had noticed that scientists, and especially researchers, had a difficult time explaining the challenges that stem from the nature of their work to people outside of their field. This can create a lot of loneliness because you have nobody to ask for help except for your colleagues...

I had a chance to make a difference and seized the opportunity. As a result, I followed a coaching training in order to understand better how to formulate my skills into actionable plans, I certified as a Rapid Transformational Coach®, and here I am! A transformational coach who speaks science, research, brain development, pattern recognision, and stress elimination strategies. Let the fun begin!
